| Directly quoted from Petros website: In
more than twenty-five years as a guitar maker and repairman, I have sought
out quality products that pertain to guitar building, maintenance and
restoration. Like most good luthiers, I'm a perfectionist and a stickler
for efficiency and quality in my tools and products. To use inferior
products is to waste time and money. Until now, the best products I have
found were only available in industrial quantities. After receiving
numerous requests from customers, I've decided to offer them to
musicians in convenient and economical sizes. These are the same full
strength, concentrated, industrial products I've been using on my guitars
for years. These are the best products available to care for your
guitar. Treat your guitar nicely and it will serve you well.
Professional Finish Restorer:
This stuff works like magic! You won't believe it's the same old
instrument that moments ago was dull, hazy and scratched. You'll need to
provide some elbow grease, but the effort is really worth it. This is the
stuff I use for the final rub out on my hand made instruments. It will
also restore that scuffed up pick guard and make it look like new. It
contains absolutely no harmful silicone. This product will not fill dents
nor will it grow missing wood or finish. Excessive use will remove the
finish down to the raw wood so care should be taken. If you are
uncomfortable with the process, seek professional help. This product is
for FINE scratches only.
Professional Instrument Polish:
When you simply wipe the dust off your guitar, you might as well be using
a piece of sandpaper, because dust is usually abrasive. Petros
Professional Instrument Polish is a special blend of carnauba wax in an
oil carrier designed to create an acoustically transparent, durable, high
gloss coat. Small amounts of this highly concentrated product will
protect your instrument's finish from moisture, salt (sweat) and
scratching caused by everyday environmental dust. After you've restored
your instruments finish with the Miracle Finish Restorer, protect it with
the Instrument Polish. It contains absolutely no harmful silicone, which
will actually soften your instruments finish.
Fingerboard Oil: Fingerboards
are not finished with surface coatings for reasons of feel, playability
and wear. They are made of rosewood or ebony because these woods possess
the desirable qualities of oiliness and wear resistance. However, because
they are raw and exposed, their natural oils dry out and do not
effectively resist the onslaught of moisture, salt and drying. This
causes swelling, shrinking and cracking. Most wood preservatives are not
effective on oily woods. Special oils are needed to penetrate these woods,
combining with their natural oils to harden within the wood, not on the
surface. Many finger board oils are just mineral oil which never dries,
but leaves an oily mess that attracts dirt and grime. This is the only oil
available that was specifically formulated for rosewood and ebony. Apply
it 3 or 4 times per year for maximum protection.
Directions for use: Our
Finish Restorer is a very fine rubbing compound. It is used to buff out
fine scratches such as occur from everyday wear or from a pick. These fine
scratches appear as a hazy finish. We use it to put the final sheen on our
guitars after the buffing wheel. It contains no silicone. Use about a
nickel size worth and either put it on the guitar or on the rag. Use more
if necessary. We use 100% cotton from old t-shirts for polishing cloths.
We wash them first and then cut them into small squares and put them in a
zip lock bag to prevent contamination. Don't reuse the polishing cloths.
Use these for the Finish Restorer or the Polish.
- Don't get the Finish
Restorer on raw wood such as your Fingerboard or bridge as it will leave a
white residue in the pores.
- It is safe for all intact finishes.
- Not for
use on cracked finishes as it will leave a white residue in the cracks.
Seek professional help for deep scratches, nicks, dents or chips which
would need to be filled first, then sanded and then buffed.
- Semi-deep
scratches would need to be sanded with 1200 grit sandpaper then buffed
with our Finish Restorer. Don't forget the elbow grease!
- For the
Instrument Polish, use just about a nickel size worth for the whole
guitar's finish, then buff with a clean rag.
-
Apply the Fingerboard Oil with a small piece of paper towel. Use enough
oil to cover the board so it remains "wet" for a short time. Very old and
dry boards will take more oil. Let it soak into the board for a few
minutes then wipe the excess with a dry paper towel. Discard oily
towels/rags appropriately and keep all products out of the reach of
children.
