Guitars by Manuel are always highly prized and the sound of this
instrument alone is worthy of the highest prize. Smooth, old world maturity
of sound,
buttery, with power and projection, this is a guitar that demands to be
recorded. She is also surprisingly easy on the hands with a
fast neck and string response that is quite enviable. The classic
silver Lansdorfers with real Ivory buttons is indeed a rarity, perfectly
complimenting an instrument, that once played, requires no further word
of adoration.
There are a few dings on the top, unfortunate, but nothing to compromise
the soundboard. There are expertly repaired cracks in the
Brazilian and one in the top, all repaired by Manuel himself and/or by
his son in the Vazquez workshop in Florida. They are stable for
years, only requiring proper care and humidification as any master
concert instrument requires.
As of February 28, 2012, I am
undertaking a full restoration of this guitar. Well, restoration
is a bit strong. I'm going to take away her dings, scratches, etc
and completely refinish the instrument. She'll look like a million
bucks when done, and cost almost that much? Nah...but she'll be up
there.
