Classical Guitar Lessons with Richard

Long Island Classical Guitar Teacher

Located in Bay Shore within the Western Suffolk region of Long Island NY just off Sunrise Hwy.

MP3s and PDFs of various lessons

  • Hi, this is Richard F. Sayage - owner of Savage Classical Guitar - international publisher and distributor of numerous classical guitar books and publications focused on the music of Bach and Weiss as well as my own compositions and finger-style arrangements of Celtic music and other genres.

  • I teach classical guitar at the beginning, intermediate and advanced level, having done so for over 20 years.

  • An important element to learning guitar is that the student can read music for the instrument in an open position, at the very least....BUT....

  • I can work with you on remedial beginner material if you have the desire to learn to read music.  It will be my pleasure to introduce you to the beauty of reading music and playing this fine instrument.  We will, as beginners, work with Aaron Shearer Volume 1 - a black book with Red Lettering, which should be available from any good book store or full service music store.

  •  I will also supply you with a copy of Volume 1 and 2 of the Carcassi Method, from which we will borrow certain issues.

  • My studio is filled with numerous guitars, recording equipment and other musical tools.  It's a great room to work on music....very comfy.  Simply, I want you to be as comfortable as possible while your lessons themselves will be rigorous.  LOL

  • I offer custom printed lessons in line with your needs, email support, practice midi and mp3 files that you can play along with for practice purposes.

  • I own a very large public domain library of pieces and methods that we can print for your customized lessons and edification.

  • In general, you will not need to purchase any books to study with me. I can supply you with what we will need to make you a better classical guitarist.

  • I prefer to teach in a musical manner, meaning that we will learn from playing and understanding the music, including harmonic analysis, as well as proper technique via the Right and Left hands, position, sight-reading, speed, and accuracy.  In the process, I teach you to analyze pieces, shapes, fingering, etc. all facilitating your learning process.

  • Focus will be on the musical studies of Sor, Carcassi, Guiliani, Aguado, etc...and the music of Bach and Weiss, where appropriate, as well as Celtic guitar and finger-style, if you wish.

  • We will record your session when you request it.  Bring a CD-RW with you!

  • Each lesson runs 1 hour give or take (usually a bit longer) and costs $50/session.

  • I only teach in my home studio in Bay Shore, Long Island.

  • For Directions, go HERE.  Contact info is HERE

  • Preferred hours are in the late afternoon to late evening.

  • I am opening my schedule up making numerous time slots available for your convenience Monday thru Friday.  My hours are flexible.  I am only constrained by those time slots all ready spoken for by other students of guitar.  We can do early AM, lunch time, early or late evening.

  • I also own a number of concert and student guitars that you can use for your lessons if you don't wish to transport your own.

  • I offer weekly and bi-weekly lessons for those on a tight schedule.

  • If you wish for me to travel to your location, a Travel Surcharge is added to the lesson fee at a "minimum" of $10/session depending upon where you live.
