Shipping Your Guitar
Shipping a classical guitar is
a tricky business. It is clear that many dangers might exist once
your guitar leaves my hands.
This is what I am doing to
protect your guitar.
-
I'll say it first...I'd
rather you came over to play, test, inspect, buy and take the guitar home
with you. In case that's not possible......here's what I will do
to ensure safe delivery of your instrument.
-
First off, your guitar will be
photographed the day of shipping, with a time stamp. These
photographs will be sent to you the day I ship it, by email. They
will contain back and front pictures of the top, back and sides, neck and
headstock. If the delivery people hurt the instrument in any way, you will have
proof of condition on the day that it was sent to you. I will back any and all statements
and/or official documents to that
purpose. Please inspect the box and the guitar as soon as you
receive it.
-
I'm a carpenter...no, not a
luthier, a carpenter! There will be 2 options that I will choose
from to ship your instrument, where the instrument is over $2500 in total
cost.
-
I will be building custom boxes made of a wood
frame to encapsulate the cardboard box containing the guitar in its case
for shipping purposes. You will need a screw gun
to dismantle the box. I'm not screwing with you either :-)
I mean it.
-
I may also construct a wood
frame for the Inside of a heavy duty cardboard guitar box that will be inserted
within. The frame will then be faced with hardboard on it's larger sides,
approximately 45" high by 18" to 21" across. The
guitar in its case will "float" inside of this structure, with additional
packing material to secure the case. (This will be the default boxing
method). I've already sent 2 guitars out this way since the end
of March. It adds about 4 to 6 lbs to the overall weight. It
is very strong :-)
-
The above options will be
dependent upon the box that I have available.
-
Either way, the overall
container will be very strong, suitable for Domestic as well as
International shipping.
-
As soon as possible, I will
upload pictures of a typical box and/or frame that I will construct for your shipping
purposes.
-
Typical hard shell cases
measure 42"x18.5"x7.5". Your wooden box will measure a minimum of 3"
over each dimension if I build an outer box for shipping purposes.
-
The box will have sufficient
room to hold the case of the guitar and material around the "entire" case.
-
In general, I'm going to assume
that the guitar will be shipped with an INNER frame for a sturdy cardboard
box suitable for International and Domestic shipping.
-
For guitars less than $2500,
they will be packed sturdily, within their case, in a suitable guitar box
made of heavy cardboard. These will also be shipped FedEx as
I find them to be very careful with storage and shipping. I've had
numerous guitars delivered by them to and for me, and I have to say, they
are the best option for shipping in every regard.
-
Guitars are always shipped in
their case...preferably a hard shell case.
-
Guitars will always be de-tuned
to not put undue stress on the top.
-
Guitars will always be fitted
to the hard-shell case and made to be snug within using soft packing
material if it is not already snug, with support for the headstock to
avoid unnecessary vibration.
-
Guitars and their boxing will
always be CLEARLY marked "Extremely Fragile", "KEEP ON TOP" and "This End
UP"
-
Guitars will ALWAYS be insured
for their full value in case of mishandling by the carrier used to deliver
your guitar.
-
It's my job to make sure that
nothing happens to your guitar. And I will do everything in my power to
make it so.
- You will pay a little extra for shipping from me, but your guitar
will
get to you in the condition I sent it.
- I will send all domestic US and North American guitar shipments via
FedEx using Business
Day Ground Shipping from Bay Shore, NY USA 11706
- Typical rates to will be anywhere from $50.00 to $100.00 to North
America...including full insurance for the purchased value of the
instrument. Rates go up and down according to total size of the
box and the purchase price of your instrument due to insurance costs.
These rates are non-negotiable. I will not send a guitar
unprotected in any way.
- It is okay to overpay for shipping on our site. I will
refund any excess costs to you immediately. If a guitar has
99.00 packed into it for shipping and it ends up costing me 69.00 after
all expenses, you will be refunded $30.00 ASAP through PayPal or my
corporate check. By the way, the same goes for the shipping of our
books overseas.
- International shipping will have to be shopped at the time of sale.
More than likely, it will also be done using FedEx.
- I will box and care for your guitar in exactly the same manner no
matter where it is being shipped.
- Any and all customs and duty taxes are the FULL responsibility of
the buyer.
- If Customs requires a payment for duty tax, pay it. You will
otherwise be charged by me for shipping 2 ways and a RETURN fee of as
much as 20% of the purchase price if the guitar is returned back to me
for non-payment of Customs taxes.
- I will mark the guitar as YOU see fit for Customs and Duty purpose.
- The Insurance amount will not change regardless.
- By purchasing an instrument from Savage Classical Guitar, you
implicitly agree to the above conditions.
- Of course...you are welcome to come over and pick up your guitar
anytime! :-) This is preferred...really really.
