July 2018 Blog Updates Savage Classical Guitar

Please NOTE that I will be in Paris, France from the 18th to the 25th of July.  Email and phone should work just fine, where I will write during the mornings and evenings.  I will be visiting with a few luthiers including Olivier Fanton d’Andon and Benoit Pierron in Lyon!

Happy July everyone!  Yes!  It’s officially hot as all get out.  Pool, beach, fishing and golf!  Nicey nice.

Alrighty then, I’ve been doing a lot of traveling, and more is on the docket.  Went to Toronto to meet with Mark Usherovich , then Kentucky for the GFA then France in July, Puerto Rico in August, and Spain in October.  More to come.

I didn’t end up making it to the GFA because of family issues.  Every year it’s something.  I am going to Paris to meet with Olivier Fanton d’Andon and a few other luthiers on July 17 for a week.  Wish me luck, cuz I dislike traveling in general.  How’s that working out for me? Ugh…

OK, on to business.  Guitars keep coming to me.  Most I like, some I return.  A guitar has to meet my exacting standards or it has to leave.  Very simple.

My journal entry for my amazing trip to Rome begins here.

My main focus this month is to do a ton of recording and video work, getting the site up to speed, again.

We have also provided for client financing through PayPal Credit.  In essence, they are offering you a 6 month loan Interest Free if paid within that time period.  Loan terms seem favorable as well, for those needing longer than 6 months to pay down the financing.  It’s a great option, one that might open the door to a special instrument you might have your eyes on.

I have re-introduced our own model of classical guitars – the Savage Classical Guitar Model 5 and Model 10 with a sale price of $2195 for the Model 10 and $1695 for the Model 5.  Madrid style bracing and build, it’s like a Ramirez 1A without all the fuss and muss.

I have also developed a line of basic but high quality strings under our labelSavage Classical Guitar Strings –  Very affordable, very straightforward nylon strings that anyone can use.  Total pound pressure of 80lbs (Flamenco – Low Tension) – 85lbs (Normal Tension) – 90lbs (High Tension).

Nicolo Alessi has sent a complete re-supply of tuning machines to the gallery.

Gotoh machines are fully stocked as well.

PegHed Machines have also been re-stocked -prices went up significantly.  Sorry.

New issues with International Shipping.  Very Important for International Clients, including Canada…Please note that we will NOT accept PayPal or any International Credit Card as payment.  All transactions must be finalized with Bank Wire Transfers for any amount over $1000 USD.  Please see our discussion found here and scroll down to Customs – Duty and International Shipping .  Thank you!

As always, our selection of quality classical guitars is unprecedented.  Really really.  See list below.  Yikes!!   I personally approve every guitar that comes across my threshold.  If a guitar is not up to standard, it is sent back.  I guarantee you will thoroughly enjoy a visit to my shop, appreciating the wide selection, where I trust and hope that you will find your perfect guitar.  Enjoy.

My best, always!  Rich – call me at 631-335-5447   – my personal email is here

An exciting development has actually happened, where the great Tony Acosta of Luthiers in NYC is getting out of the business, offering me the majority of his stable of classical guitars.  Customers of Luthiers should contact me personally for any and all Consignments and or sales going forward.
Tony and I agreed in principle to have his museum level guitars consigned here starting in a few weeks, where we will bring in 4-6 at at time, including Simplicio – Torres – and many other great historic names.
I’ve brought in Dieter Hopf – John Price – Tom Malapanis – Juan Hernandez – and many guitars from Manuel Adalid as well as his Esteve line (which I’ve already represented).

  • I updated the Classical Guitar Care page to reflect some further thoughts, as I’m getting some feedback about neck shrinkage, causing those sticky frets at the end.  Yikes.  Humidity is important.  The guitar (your guitars) need to be at and around 50% RH …. all…the….time!  One bad day makes a difference.  I work hard to keep the gallery at 50% RH.  The latest is the Vornado EVap 4 gallon version.  What a good machine (so far).
  • A wonderful visit with Bob Desmond in Orlando, Florida.  I spent over 4 hours with him, re-discovering what an amazing luthier he truly is and how he has been underrated for a long time.  His time with various luthiers including Manuel Velazquez go unnoticed and unrecognized.  What is recognized is how amazing his guitars are within the traditional techniques of modern lutieria.  They are mindful of the greatest guitars from the likes of Bouchet – Friederich and Hauser and of course the great Manuel.  What is most incredible, is that in spite of the shoddy treatment received by the family, he has nothing but extraordinary things to say about the son and the father, and how grateful he is for the time spent and the knowledge learned.  People don’t get it.  Bob is so knowledgeable, so skilled, it belies his own quiet demeanor.  Much respect, Bob, much respect
  • 06-28-2018 – a 2008 Gernot Wagner DT Cedar w/Madagascar RW has arrived
  • 06-30-2018 – A very busy week with some beautiful guitars, both coming in and going out.  Just recorded Lorenzo Lippi’s guitar.  What a pleasure.
  • 07-20-2018 – Having CITES issues with USDA and CBP for 2 different shipments from Spain.  I can’t fix stupid.  Can only guide them and it takes to dang long to teach people that are “experts”?  Right!
  • 07-03-2018 – Trying to wrap my head around processing video work.  I have 4 to do, which once I break through, I can do a lot more.  btw, it’s so hot!  I generally like it like this, but gotdam, it’s cooking steak on the pavement hot around here?  LOL
  • 07-10-2018- A Manuel Velazquez from 1996? is en route
  • 07-11-2018 – A 1998 Felix Manzanero has arrived.  Links below.
  • 07-13-2018 – A few Cordoba Esteso classicals have arrived, all in Cedar – I like these guitars as they are built by a friend of mine in Northern Mexico
  • 07-15-2018 – A beautiful Kenny Hill Signature #3895 with Bearclaw Spruce and EIRW has arrived, pre-owned in very good condition, guitar is an angel
  • 07-16-2018 – Video shoot with Brian Dooley of the Eastman School.  He played the Mazza guitars – Olivier’s guitar and the latest Daryl Perry – some Celtic pieces (my favorite) and some Bach
  • 07-25-2018 – Return from Paris – the trip was extraordinary. Olivier is such a great man.  Benoit Pierron another character, with a sharp wit and talent for building like few have at their access.  Paris was a blast.  The country side beautiful.  Chateaudun was picturesque!  What a trip.  I’ll be posting a complete page on the trip very soon.  Many photos and video was recorded.  I have to coordinate with my wife on the photos, but we got tons!
  • 07-26-2018 – Guitars from Manuel Adalid have arrived including Model 8 – Model 9C/B – Model 11 and Model 12 guitars all in Cedar.  Updates to the website shortly.
  • 07-30-2018 – Tim Panman from the Netherlands joined us yesterday.  I took the opportunity to record him a bit and shot a video using Steve Porter Classical Guitar #29 2014 Spruce EIRW
