1964 Manuel Velazquez #V1-R64-01 Spruce CSARW 650mm
Comments:
First, the guitar is magnificent in her play and her musicality. Literally, nothing else could be said to convince further. Deep basses to high lilting trebles with enviable balance. She is an incredibly musical guitar, seriously lyrical.
Second, I say Excellent to Very Good condition at 85%+. This is me being picayune. It is probably much better. There is one repaired crack along the soundboard, bass side running with the grain to the rosette. This is the story of the guitar and it starts with Manuel Velazquez himself repairing the crack, addressing the fret board and frets in a 9 year span. There are 2 cleats within, a new board, and obviously new frets, set up to perfection.
The guitar is accompanied by a photo of the owner with his daughter and MV. There is a letter, signed by MV, declaring the provenance of the guitar, dated, with his own evaluation of said value. This dated in 2013 when the owner finally retrieved the guitar from MV down here in Florida.
Slight and honest play wear, treble side of the rosette, finish issues are non-existent after a good polishing and buffing, all very typical, all expected given her almost 62 years of life. Photos will clearly display anything you need to see.
The Bear Claw on this Spruce is magnificent, shimmering, giving the guitar an almost 3-D affect with an absolutely beautiful patina to the top.
Also, Rio Rosewood, CSA etc is another way of saying Brazilian Rosewood. Thus, the guitar is NOT eligible for International Shipping. You may come to the gallery and take possession of her, but she will not be shipped Internationally. This is said with zero exception. If you choose to have it shipped across USA borders, this is a 100% risk on your part, where we will not be held liable in any way, shape or form. Once the guitar leaves my gallery, it is yours. I say this plainly so there is no mistake. I speak this way 100% of the time, I mean what I say, I say what I mean, philosophy.
What is also unusual about this guitar is that it is clearly a period of time in MV’s career where he was not allowed to build his concert guitars, due to contractual obligations. If you are aware of his history, you know of what I speak. Thus, this guitar is quite rare, where she may be 1 of 10 or so concert instruments from this time period, thus the V1 designation, as he was not allowed to build, never mind sign said guitars. The ebony board and the Brazilian Rosewood are the other dead giveaways!? LOL
The guitar is opening up, playing beautifully. She has an ancient lyrical voice, in that ever so special Velazquez way, making music like few other guitars. This is a studio recording dream guitar.
The guitar is strung with Savage Classical Guitar Strings – Normal Tension.
