Comments:

The guitar was restored by our shop and Glenn Nichols, where the top was refinished, minimizing play wear, nail ticks, scratches, etc,   There are still some nail marks in and around the rosette, and on the top, but they are insignificant, simple evidence of honest playing wear.  She was played, so this is expected, photographed to show any of these marks to the best of our ability.  The back and sides are stellar looking with some small marks as well.

Frets were replaced and a whole new nut and saddle with setup done to complete the job.

She’s also a tremendous guitar, setup somewhat moderate, where I feel she is playing perfectly.   She plays very well, with a big fat round sound, one that you expect from a guitar such as this.  There’s a tinkle in the trebles that is highly desirable, while the rest of the guitar balances well.  She is a big guitar and she has a big sound.  Did I say she’s big?  Fat in the depth, wide in the bouts, long in the scale.  Weirdly enough, she doesn’t play any bigger than an old Ramirez.  I had to double take when I measured the scale length  LOL

Marcelino was a meticulous builder, one of the oldest living builders in Spain.  The guitar is very straightforward in every regard.  The woods are straight-grained.  It’s all about the sound and the play.

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks. Rich

MP3 Audio200227-1967 Marcelino Lopez 491 Cedar CSA – big baby of a guitar.  Great sound, great play.  Cavernous, like her body, with beautiful push in the basses and sing in the trebles.  She’s big, plays big, but really not crazy.  Much like a big Ramirez from the 1960’s.  Love the guitar.
