Comments

The guitar is really incredible, from a Traditional build point of view.  Hauser is clearly an influence, with that superb clear lyrical voice, canted fretboard, facilitating relief with easy play.  A superb playing and listening experience.

The guitar is solely built by David in his Oxon workshop.  The guitar is signed internally by David within the soundboard.  The attached photo was taken by the owner’s parents upon visiting with David and family when purchasing the guitar.  Please note that in 1972, when David turned his attention to bowed instruments, is when he began his collaboration with Paul Fischer and then Kazuo Sato, thus the initials P.F. in his 70’s instruments.  I would please point out that this guitar is built in 1969, thus solely built by David.  I have also added a photo of the underside of the soundboard, with his signature and the center band signature beneath his label.  I have had numerous inquiries, questioning this guitar.  All evidence points to David building this guitar himself.

Being almost as old as me, and played, there is evidence of honest play wear, with a few dings in the top by the bass side and a string ding behind the high E string.  I took quadrant photos to highlight anything visible.  The back and sides are in excellent shape, with again, normal things that might happen over a 50+ year journey.  Photos illustrate everything I can see.

I am not certain of the tuning machines.  They are original, work beautifully, but are they Landstorfer or Reischl?  I simply do not know.

Please note that this guitar is NOT eligible for International Shipping.  You are welcome to personally come to the gallery to pick the guitar up.  Otherwise, the guitar should be sold domestically within the USA.  The buyer assumes all responsibility once it leaves our gallery.  Thank you kindly for your understanding.  Richard

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks. Rich

MP3 Audio  – 220327-1969 David Rubio 202 Spruce CSA – such a great guitar, clear, bold, solid in her voices with separation, balanced, colorful and expressive.  David Rubio is clearly a master luthier, stating the obvious.  Lovely instrument.
