1970 Gibson L5 CES Sunburst #688648

A client brought a few things to my attention, thus my extended research into this guitar, serial number, configuration, etc have determined that this guitar is either from late 1969 or 1970.  Issues that were addressed are the rounded Cutaway, the Made in U.S.A. on the back of the headstock by the serial number, the overall configuration, buttons, switches, pickguard, etc.  I have updated the listing to more accurately reflect the configuration and year, including the Vintage Sunburst finish, adding about 10% to the overall value.  I originally had it listed as a 1968.  My bad.

The guitar itself is marking in at least at an 85% grade.  All original, untouched in any way inspected thoroughly with black light.  There are the lightest thin marks and lines in the finish on the top and the back and some very small marks on the top, scratches, 2 dings, all photographed, after close, well-lit examination.   There is a small fissure, stable, by the pickguard, running parallel to the cutaway, about 4.5″ long.  Very thin, it is down in the wood a bit, but no movement, again, stable.

I took over 40 photographs showing everything I could find, so no surprises.  These photos are untouched, except for proper cropping and color control.  I did not remove one speck of anything out of the shots, to be certain that everything possible is shown.  Please inspect all photos carefully.  They can be blown up quite large, as they are all HD.  It is not my intent, nor is it ever, to misrepresent anything under my control.

I pride myself on full disclosure, black & white honest representation, something I’m certain many of you out there can appreciate.

All plugged in and tested, all switches and dials are quiet, with zero clacking.

Ryan and I did a nice setup on the guitar, cleaned the frets, lightly oiled and cleaned the neck.  She is good to go.

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks. Rich
