Comments
This magnificent example by Simon Ambridge exceeds expectations. There are a few things to discuss regarding this incredible guitar.
First, she is highlighted in the book, “The Art & Craft of Contemporary Guitars” by Robert Shaw. The guitar is numbered #113 and is dated 2001. The guitar will come with a copy of the above book.
The guitar has 1 owner, who cared for it meticulously. She is in excellent condition, with nothing of significance to report. Minor and honest play wear on the top in the usual places, and slightly worn finish on the back where it would rest against your chest. Photos show this clearly. Let’s discuss the guitar…
The tuning machines are by David Rodgers with Sterling Silver Faceplates and Fossil Ivory buttons. Very unique and quite beautiful.
The top is from old stock German Spruce as is the Brazilian Rosewood. All very difficult to acquire and quite expensive choices.
The headstock is carved Ebony, Snakewood with an engraved Sterling Silver Monogram, which is dated 1901 to 2001 with Joaquin Rodrigo carved into the emblem.
The Bridge is made with Brazilian Rosewood with Snakewood Inlays and Mosaic.
The Nut and Saddle are made of Fossil Ivory.
Aside from all of the visual prettiness, the guitar is finished with a fine Fischer HSC
The guitar itself is wildly resonant and wholly musical. Workmanship is stellar.
The room was filled with the sound of the guitar and her play is totally accessible, almost effortless. Simon is among the elite in the world, a true master, building power, with music, grace and elegance.
Simon builds out of his studios in Dartingon, Devon, England.
Please note that this guitar is NOT eligible for International Shipping. You are welcome to personally come to the gallery to pick the guitar up. Otherwise, the guitar should be sold domestically within the USA. The buyer assumes all responsibility once it leaves our gallery. Thank you kindly for your understanding. Richard

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?). My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar. I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything. Thanks. Rich
