Comments

The guitar is superb in the tradition of a Hauser, with sublime and elegance being the best description possible of her sound and overall affect.  Superlative binding work, carvings, coupled with an elegant voice make this guitar a clear winner.

She is in excellent condition, with tremendous play response, high lilting trebles, push basses and a throatiness to the mids, in essence, exactly what you want from a high performance classical guitar.

Douglas is not building much anymore, thus his guitars are not readily available.  I am told that this guitar was built with Pepe Romero in mind, where both he and David Russell have played this guitar, commenting upon its superb voice and concert performance readiness.

Media

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar. I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything. Thanks. Rich

Please NOTE that photos of all “production guitars” are stock photos, taken randomly for our numerous selection of guitars, whether they be from Kenny Hill – Esteve – Adalid or others.  It is virtually impossible and arduous to photograph each of our available production guitars. I am, however, happy to take a few photos for you of any particular guitar with which your are interested.

Also, measurements of string spacing and nut width are also approximate, as they can be “slightly” different from guitar to guitar.  They may be factory made (meaning down the line factory) but humans are still doing much of this work and it is NOT an exact science.

Handcrafted instruments are photographed and listed individually, usually identified by a serial number, date and or some other combination.

MP3 Audio – 2004 Douglas Ching Ambassador Spruce CSA – an incredibly beautiful, colorful, projecting guitar.  Hauser-ish through and through.  Such a pleasure to play a fine instrument.  I play quite a bit here, including the last section of my new piece, which is based on the Sarabande of Ponce’s Suite in A Minor.  I love that Suite, but the Sarabande is my least favorite section of his Suite.  This is more to my liking, but as we know, everyone’s mileage varies.  LOL  The levels on this recording are a bit low, where the recording below (my test recording) is quite a bit hotter.  I should probably re-record with my current setup.

MP3 Audio – 2004 Douglas Ching Ambassador Spruce CSA – I was working on a new recording pattern using this guitar as the test, all while working on getting back to playing after a 5 day layoff.  What I noticed is the way she had woken up in the last 2 months.  I figured I would just post the test recording.  I don’t really play anything, just testing the guitar.  She passed!  LOL  Rich
