2010 Steve Connor #204 Pagoda Cedar CSA
Comments:
Steve’s work is impeccable, guitars powerful, and always very pretty.
She’s so very pretty. The CSA RW is superb, the Cedar top is medullar rayed. Natural taper to the body, she’s fat bottomed at 4 3/8″, but the tapering allows for a comfortable elevation to the fretboard. His workmanship is stellar. This guitar evidences Stephan’s typical upgrades regarding one of his classical guitars, including the elevated FretBoard, port with magnetic cover, then the additional magnetic armrest, where you can see it off in the main portraits, then back on when laying the guitar down.
Inspection within reveals his Signature stamping, also the #204 with the name of the guitar “Pagoda” and his quick signature all written on the inside of the soundboard.
Playing her last night, the guitar immediately came to life. Instantly, her voice became evident. She’s powerful (very much so), bold and direct in your face and that of your audience. Set up to play comfortably, possibly too low. Look at the action numbers, they are not wrong. For someone with light RH velocity, that wants a guitar that bellows, this is it. The mids are superb, as are the blooming basses and the crystal trebles (which are incredibly powerful, btw). Steve’s reputation is well deserved. Another instant favorite.
The guitar has some small play wear on the top, treble side, smallish rakes and nail marks. She has been played, no doubt, but deservedly so. The back and sides are very nice as well with marginal rubbing of the finish in the expected areas. There is a distinct line in the back going cross grain, but I have no idea what happened here. Nothing of significance. A quick buffing and she’s good to go. Photos will show everything as I took shots that will illustrate my wear discussion regarding the top and the back. There is also a golpe strip on the treble side of the guitar, for a leg rest of some sort. She has a magnetic port cover as well as a magnetic arm rest, making for super comfort.
Steve has a 3+ year waiting list. This guitar is immediately available via my gallery. The Brazilian Rosewood is a serious premium from all luthiers, Steve included.

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?). My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar. I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything. Thanks. Rich
