2011 Michael O’Leary #158 Cedar Cocobolo Lattice 630mm

Clearly Michael O’Leary is a superb builder with excellent taste.  This is his Exclusive model, his highest end build.  Apparently, there is a 3 year waiting list for one of his guitars, and growing.

The guitar is very active, bold, forceful and clear in all registers. The action is too low, in my opinion, as you want to drive this guitar, and then lay back where appropriate.  Perfect for those with a lighter touch, but I’m going to raise the nut action at least 01.mm to alleviate that unnecessary buzz.

The guitar has been played, of that there is no question, but it is all honest play wear, nail marks, rasqueado, etc.  I will detail any and all, verbally in this page and photographically, as I describe below.  I will be taking quadrant photos of the top and back as required.  I’m doing this now for all “Pre-Owned” guitars, taking specific quadrant photos to show you exactly what is going on with a guitar, if anything.

Eye Candy is a term we use quite a bit when appropriate here in the gallery.  This guitar has a whole big bag of eye candy all to itself (quite selfish, actually LOL).  Fortunately, she also has a voice to match.

Please note that photos can be enlarged.  Right click any photo in the larger window, select “Open Image in New TAB” (if you’re using Chrome.  Any other browser has similar options). Look at the other TAB and you will be able to enlarge via the magnifying glass.  Simply click the image and she will double in size for your convenience.

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks. Rich

MP3 Audio –  210507-2011 Michael O’Leary 158 Cedar Cocobolo Lattice 630mm – a wonderfully expressive lattice by the master luthier from Ireland.  Small in scale, string spacing, and action, this guitar will be a dream for any of us with smaller hands, requiring a small scale guitar.  There is much power there if you wish it, but her evocativeness is what drew me in as I play her.  A lovely guitar.
