2011 Thomas Malapanis #51 Cedar Cocobolo

Comments

Tom builds a superb classical guitar with a traditional voice, power and resonance.  The guitar is very active, bold, forceful and clear in all registers.  I sat with her for a touch today, taken aback by the power and clarity of the cedar guitar Tom built.  Super clean voices, powerful in the mids and lows, easily accessible due to a near perfect setup.

The guitar is taken from another dealer in NYC, in excellent condition except for an accidental string behind the bridge.  Yikes!!  Why!!! Oh, the humanity…moving on…

Strings have been changed to a Savarez White Card.  There is a small string ding behind the bridge, high E string.  Other than that, she is near perfect.  Great guitar.

Media

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks. Rich

MP3 Audio – 200816-2011 Thomas Malapanis 51 Cedar Cocobolo – very powerful, bold and direct.  An “in-your-face” kind of guitar, that blends voices beautifully.  The beauty is in the directness of force, when pushed, yet, you can dial her back, warm her up with Right Hand position, getting that fat round beautiful sound.  The guitar is the whole package.

Angel Romero plays and endorses Tom Malapanis guitars.  This is back a few years ago.  I have one of Angel’s guitars here from Tom as well.  Angel is such a sweet man, laid back and so very good at what he does.
