2013 Larry Breslin Spruce Cocobolo DT
Comments
This latest guitar by Larry is superb. A great guitar is resonant, vibrant, clear, musical and full of lyrical expression. One that is simply waiting for the player to bring its musicality to the forefront. Larry Breslin builds that guitar. Inspiring and beautiful, to listen to and to look upon in the early morning light.
This guitar has a faint floral inlay within the sides. It can be seen from certain angles. She is very beautiful, from the woods chosen by Larry to her workmanship as a whole.
The guitar is pre-owned, traveled and has been played. There is honest playing wear around the rosette area, the back/sides have their share of wear as well, but overall has held up quite well. Matt Rubendall in Brooklyn, a fine luthier, did a setup on the guitar as well as repairing/gluing a very fine fissure in the Cocobolo, which I’ve checked through and is quite stable. Apologies for the error in the photographs with the tag saying Ziricote. That’s on me, as the guitar is clearly Cocobolo. Rich
From the builder
The design of the rosette came about by my noticing the yellow roses against the midnight sky in my garden. If you look closely at the bottom bout of the sides, between the finish and the rosewood, the theme is continued.

Jon –
I currently own the older brother of this guitar. I have a 2010 Breslin with cocobolo and bear claw spruce top. Larry is a great builder with phenomenal attention to detail. I remember seeing this guitar being built. The cococobolo is stunning. I find it helps to provide an nice warm tone and is very responsive. The bear claw spruce helps to bring out the high end frequencies with accuracy and clarity. The whole instrument comes together to bring a beautifully balanced tone that allows for great response and articulation.
