Comments

Master builder Slavko Mrdalj knowledge in the construction of musical instruments was acquired working with the famous Sarajevo constructor and restaurateur Branko Krunic. Eventually he started his own workshop in Bosnia, building guitars of his own design.   In his work he constantly invests in research and improvement in the quality of the instruments, using new technologies and materials in guitar construction.  His instruments possess exceptional strength and tone projection, great dynamic range and superb responsiveness.

Slavko’s guitar, the one we have here in the gallery, has a cavernous effect, booming across the registers, all while maintaining a good balance, with lilting trebles.  She is a darker sounding instrument, thus will be pleasing to those looking for a lattice type Cedar.  Workmanship is excellent, as well as thoughtful, with the armrest and the porting on the upper bout (which has a magnetic cover).  She also came with a magnetic leg rest.  The Schaller Grand Tuning machines failed, thus I put on a new set of Gotoh 35G510P Series with Ebony ovals.  I also put her in a Guardian HSC as she is slightly bigger in her measurements, requiring a larger case.

The guitar was built (or finished) in February of 2016 as designated 02-16 in the label.  The guitar is named “Kai” – I do not have a backstory for the name, but this guitar was owned by an excellent player (1 owner).

I found the guitar, besides a bit darker and cavernous sounding, to have easy playability, resonance and sing in her voices.  In all, a fantastic value under $5K.

Media

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks. Rich

MP3 Audio – 200320-2016 Slavko Mrdalj Kai Cedar EIRW – developing into a superb guitar.  A bit darker, the clarity of voice and the power are coming through beautifully.  Easily played as well.  Really nice guitar.
