2018 Len Laviolette #127 Cedar DT Ebony
Just arrived, this guitar is another superb example of the beauty, warmth, roundness and clarity of Western Red Cedar used as a top soundboard by a superb luthier Pretty, full bodied voice, very powerful as well, and easy to play. The Double Top works very well, while not overpowering any aspect of the guitar. I was surprised by how round she sounds, with nothing shrill or unexpected.
Excellent work by the master luthier from California. Len’s work was intriguing and accessible price-wise to me. Looking forward to seeing her, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily she plays, her warmth, clarity and projection.
Len used this guitar for himself, then decided to send it to me to offer to all of you. As a result, with just the slightest play wear, all insignificant, the guitar is open and quite warm, with an easy play affect. I personally buffed and polished the back and sides of this guitar, and as you can see in the photos, it came out superb.
This is a really incredible guitar.
He included a comfortable armrest as well as Premium Rubners. Rubner has a mess of machines, but little is known of the premium offerings, with roller bearing and incredible smoothness, besides being very attractive. The guitar is strung with D’Addario Nylon high tension strings.
A customer of Len’s played this actual guitar, having said this to us on Instagram: “I played this guitar at Lens place before it got sent out. Whoever acquires this one is one lucky person! Very powerful tone and sustain.👏👏”

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?). My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar. I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything. Thanks. Rich
MP3 Audio – 200108b-Prelude 15-2018 Len Laviolette 127 Cedar DT Ebony – Finalized version of Prelude #15 written by me in C Major – this is a fairly rough version, not mastered, recorded in my usual fashion, no edits, no production, well…nothing. You can even hear the noise in the background, from the front to the end when it gets quiet. It’s a pretty piece, with movement all over. I don’t know where it came from, but the theme was bouncing around in my head for a few days before I picked up a guitar and fleshed it out. This will be added to my next collection, Volume 2. I love it on this guitar as well. I push pretty hard here and there, but the guitar did great.
MP3 Audio – 190805-2018 Len Laviolette #127 Cedar DT Ebony – incredible guitar, what a value? Truly beautiful all around.
