Just arrived, this guitar is another superb example of the beauty, warmth, roundness and clarity of Engelmann Spruce used as a top soundboard! Pretty, full bodied voice, very powerful as well, and easy to play. The Double Top works very well, while not overpowering any aspect of the guitar. I was surprised by how round she sounds, with nothing shrill or unexpected.
Excellent work by the master luthier from California. Len’s work was intriguing and accessible price-wise to me. Looking forward to seeing her, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily she plays, her warmth, clarity and projection.
He included a comfortable armrest as well as Premium Rubners. Rubner has a mess of machines, but little is known of the premium offerings, with roller bearing and incredible smoothness, besides being very attractive. The guitar is strung with D’Addario Nylon and Carbon high tension strings.

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?). My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar. I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything. Thanks. Rich
MP3 Audio – 190422-2018 Len Laviolette #129 Spruce DT Ebony I played her this morning on April 19th. I was taken aback by her warmth, projection and comfort. Len included 2 additional saddles for higher string break, which I will put on, as I feel she’s a touch too low. OK, so I didn’t put the higher saddle on, was too excited to play and record the guitar. It will be nice for someone looking for a low and fast action. I just ramble and bamble about on the guitar, but loved it! So much value in this guitar. You’ll enjoy it if you’re looking for an affordable and well appointed Double Top guitar.
