2019 Luciano Maggi Cedar Malaysian BW

Comments:

This is another very interesting guitar.  She is classified as a Shaula Classical with Lattice bracing by Luciano (see label photo).  The internals are amazing (see photos).  The guitar is quick, loud, and musical, a monster in every regard.  She is lattice braced, with a sound port by the bass side and an internal diaphragm, all lending itself to the incredible power of this guitar.  The woods are equally gorgeous, using the finest Yellow Cedar board and beautifully figured Ebony (Malaysian Blackwood).  He has always had excellent taste in wood selection using the finest figured and dry aged timbers.

The guitar is seriously worked on the inside.  I cannot say enough.  There is bracing, X patterns, air flow holes in the soundbars, bracing on the back, and so on.  It’s a marvel to look at the inside of this guitar.  I suppose he knows what he’s doing simply because the guitar delivers.  Extraordinary is the word.

Luciano is definitely top of the class from the small world of great Italian makers.  He is creative, inventive, putting forth instruments that deliver on every level.  The guitar must be heard and played to fully appreciate the level of power and lyricism this baby puts forth.  Very impressive.

To be clear, regarding the finish of the guitar, the satin nitro is applied on the top as well as the back and sides, as a coat on top of the resin base treatment.   This base coat (for the finish) is of Luciano’s proprietary mixture.

The machines are highly accurate and very handsome.  The HSC is excellent as well.  The guitar has a very big, open and expansive voice that rings and rings.  Really an incredible guitar, as is her sister guitar, the 2019 Spruce w/Pau Rojo.  The Malaysian Blackwood is a superb cut of wood, as Luciano is very well known for his cache of woods.  Love this guy!

The price includes an Italian built HSC and Express Shipping to the 50US

From the owner, who knows Luciano well, ”

The purpose of the diaphragm is to allow the air column flow through the sound port to be reversed in direction in respect to the sound hole flow.
In other words, when the air is going into the sound hole, it is expelled from the sound port and vice versa.
This prevents the air flow to fight against itself as it is the case in a traditional single hole guitar and it allows for much greater dynamics without the compression effect typical of when a guitar is being pushed to its limits.
It also allows the sound wave to be ‘formed outside of the guitar’. What I mean by that is that the air flow is almost circulating ‘through’ the guitar through the two holes, completing the circle outside of the guitar, where the audience is. The sound resulting is therefore perceived as ‘right there’ and coming from all around by the audience, rather than boxy as sometimes is the case even with traditional concert guitars.

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks. MP3 Audio190813-2019 Luciano Maggi Cedar Malaysian BW – I had an incredible amount of fun playing this monster of a sweetie. It was getting better as I played it.  It will only improve?  Scary.   Luciano is a supremely talented luthier.  How much fun did I have, you ask?  Well, this recording goes on a while.  Did not get tired of playing her.
