Comments:

There is so much to say about this unique guitar, building style and the processes by which the top is made, the back and side woods are doubled, the use of Amber throughout the guitar, the Acoustic Tubes used in the hollow neck, etc.  Most of this is proprietary, so the discussion is limited.  I will say that in meeting Rafal’s sons, Nico and Timothy, I was not overly enthusiastic at first.  The guitar won me over quickly.  She plays effortlessly, firstly.  Her sound was consistent throughout the ranges.  I found no dead notes on the fretboard.  Her appearance is stunning.  The meticulous workmanship in and out won me over finally, once I put her on my bench to inspect the guitar.  The Amber touches on the headstock, the bridge, parts of the neck, the rosette are tastefully done.  The lines on the guitar are elegant.  The woods are spectactular.  A playing experience coupled with a visual stunningness that simply could not be overlooked.

I will also say that I have committed to numerous guitars of this caliber from Rafal and his family.  This guitar is within his Queen Collection, where I will only bring this level or the Diamond level of guitar into the gallery.  I respect the family traditions brought to the table, the knowledge of both of his sons in the entire process of building and the matter of factness of their entire presentation to me.  All to say, I was surprised by these fine young gentlemen and the guitar they brought for me to examine.

This particular guitar would be considered a FingerStyle Cutaway with a sharp Florentine Cut.  The woods are, in a word, phenomenal!  I mean, wow.  I cannot wait to photograph this baby.  The armrest is super comfortable, making the playing experience excellent, while the voice is musical, in the way that you would expect a finger style guitar to sound.  Bossa Nova, Americana, and the classical repertoire are all in its wheelhouse.

The considerable specs are listed below.  She’s a player with some real volume and character of voice.  Nice!

  • Double Top – Western Red Cedar (Master Grade) (top & bottom)
  • Back & Sides of California Black Walnut Burl with sapwood (Master Grade) – stunning is an understatement!
  • elevated fingerboard – African Ebony (Master Grade)
  • Asymmetric Turkowiak neck profile made of flamed Sycamore Maple (Master Grade) with a natural Baltic amber crown logo on the heel
  • Central soundhole with natural Baltic amber rosette inlaid with two natural Baltic white amber crown logos – obviously an original design
  • Ebony smooth arm bevel integrated with the guitar body
  • Double Baltic amber headplates with a crown logo made of natural white Baltic amber
  • Nut made of hand-shaped and polished natural bone, width 52 mm
  • Saddle made of hand-shaped, polished and semi-scalloped natural bone
  • AR Turkowiak Gold tuning machines from Italy, with ebony buttons and black aluminium rollers with bearings and black wood screw reinforcements, ratio 18:1, with engravings
  • African Ebony bindings (Master Grade)
  • Natural Baltic amber side markers diameter 2 mm at 5, 9 fret and concentric side markers diameter 4 mm at 7, 12 (double) fret inlaid with natural Baltic amber
  • Anti-static varnish (own recipe), hand polished, high-gloss
  • EVO-GOLD (nickel-free) fretwire
  • Scale length of 650 mm
  • Florentine (sharp) cutaway

Media

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks. Rich

MP3 Audio – Coming Soon! – This guitar is awesome.  Different looking, great sounding, easy playing.  Yes sir!!
