Darren and I have been working together since 2003, where he has always impressed with the modeling and building of his guitars, his deep, instinctive knowledge, coupled with his extreme work ethic.  He built a number of Hauser models just recently, sending these 2 to a smaller dealer, who has now sent them to me.

It is a sad and simple fact that dealers, of any caliber, simply do not know how to handle their guitars or their clientele that may come in to test them out.  We have rules of engagement here in my gallery, for every guitar, no matter the price.  Do not touch the body of my guitars.  I am militant about it, and politely firm, but do not mistake my politeness for weakness or complacency.

OK, saying that, I have completed a full interior and exterior inspection of the guitar, finding some evidence of play wear on the top, small marks around the back and sides, here and there.  It is a shame to have such a beautiful guitar lessened by lazy negligence.  Ugh.  OK, I will attempt to photograph them, but I doubt they will show up.  Small fingernail marks along with small finish rubbing on the back.  Nothing significant, where I can buff and or re-polish some of it using shellac, but I want to give full disclosure, as always.

I also put the guitar in a Fiberglass Eastman Case as what they sent was insufficient.  I have lowered the price to the mid $4K range, which is a bit of a shame, as the guitar is much more valuable.

The woods are phenomenal, her sound decidedly clean and pure in her voices and separation.  The play on her is gorgeous. Powerful enough, certainly musical and expressive with easy play.  I found her round and warm sounding, with the expected bells of the trebles, exhibiting excellent balance throughout her ranges as well as a superb growl in the mid voices.

The Alpine Spruce is superb, evidencing slight Bear Claw, highly desirable.  The African Blackwood back & sides are some choice woods giving the straight grained appearance expected in the old master builds, all while avoiding the Brazilian Rosewood, which prohibits paperwork and International shipping.  The guitar plays and sounds as sweet as possible.  The machines are incredibly attractive, built by the higher end division of Rubner Tuning Machines.  See photos.  This is simply an excellent guitar by Darren Hippner.

Media

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. Thanks. Rich
