Product Description

Fender Precision Bass 1972 Blue Ice #367820

PRECISION BASS by Fender was produced in the United States with production dates from 1951-1981.
The typical Fender Precision Bass featured the following:
  • offset double cutaway ash body,
  • bolt-on maple neck,
  • 20-fret maple fingerboard with black dot inlays,
  • four-on-one-side tuners,
  • strings-through bridge,
  • chrome bridge cover (sometimes called an ashtray),
  • black or white pickguard,
  • single coil exposed pickup with cover,
  • two knobs (v, tone) mounted on a metal plate,
  • chrome hardware, available in Blonde (1951-1981), 2-Color Sunburst (1954-1959), 3-Color Sunburst (mid-1958-1981), or Custom Color finishes (1956-1981), mfg. 1951-1981.

This particular Precision Bass features a Custom Color Finish of Blue Ice (very rare, none to be found available), which adds approximately 30-40% to its overall value.

The bass is ALL original, barely played.   This is extremely rare to find.  I looked at a lot of listings out there, where many of these basses look like they’ve been through a wood-chipper?

She also has a pure white pickguard

The guitar is in Mint condition.  The only slight issue is some kind of smallish rub mark on the back (photos show this clearly).

Comments

The guitar itself is marking in at least at an 95-98%+ grade.  All original, untouched in any way inspected thoroughly with black light.  I took over 20 photographs showing everything I could find, no surprises.  I pride myself on full disclosure, black & white honest representation, something I’m certain many of you out there can appreciate.

She has a big fat growling sound, nice playable jazzy kind of neck (I believe they call this an A-neck which is narrower), and did I say big fat sound? All plugged in and tested, all switches and dials are quiet, with zero clacking.

Ryan and I did a nice setup on the guitar, cleaned the frets, lightly oiled and cleaned the neck.  She is good to go.

Serial number check and investigation lend the year to an early 1972 build.  She also comes with a case from the Fender factory.  This guitar has had one owner, who bought it directly from the Fender shop in Nashville.  She’s been sitting in a closet, where the heirs to the guitar thought it should be out there, trusting us to do the job for them.  I’m grateful.

Yeah, she’s pretty remarkable.  I seriously like this bass.

Media

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks.
