Comments
This guitar? All of Jean’s work. Seriously? Jean is ridiculously good at what he does. It’s almost impossible to describe the beauty of this guitar.
The Cello Back, the woods, the polish, the raised V Neck joint that’s 3 dimensional, the raised edges of the headstock, the carving, the overall artistry. <shaking of the head>
Then there’s the play, the sound, the musicality. Sublime. Warmth, roundness, with sweet lilting trebles, superbly powerful! Everything sounds magnificently clear and vibrant on this baby of a guitar.
Jean’s choices in woods, tuning machines, angles, sound, (heck, even the case is great, fitted properly to the Rompré (the one owner had it fitted by Calton, one of the best cases available) are always exceptional, as you would expect from such a talented and caring luthier. Among the best in the world, Jean proves it every time he builds one of his beauties. The guitar is bar none, gorgeous. The man is seriously talented. No joke. I took a number of detailed shots of the guitar to display her beauty.
Issues with the guitar are nothing of consequence. A string burn behind the treble E, a few very slight rasqueado marks down the treble side of the rosette, all very transparent and honest playing wear, and very little of it. Otherwise pristine after examination.
I sat down with this guitar, #92 and it is better than expected. Jean surpasses himself. Everything I say above is applicable and more.
