Kenny Hill Classical Guitar Player Series – 628mm Scale Length – Spruce & Cedar available w/EIRW – all solid woods and beautifully selected
The Kenny Hill Classical Guitar Player Series is a new model that has been in development for some time. At a more accessible price, these guitars feature selected Indian Rosewood – all solid woods – and a 49mm to 50mm nut width – 56mm to 58mm string spacing at bridge
The Player Series Classical Guitar offers the player a wide variety of choices: each model is available with an Engelmann Spruce or Western Red Cedar soundboard, 650mm or shorter 640mm string lengths and lower. Incredibly, the Spruce tops have silk rays or medullar rays throughout, highly prized and they really do sound terrific. The Cedar tops have beautiful straight grain, with a lush ruddy look to them, sounding warm and wet, most evidencing the same Medullar Rays. The Indian Rosewood backs and sides are also superior. You might expect to see these types of woods selected for guitars well over $3000 or more in price.
Once you’ve tried these guitars, I am confident you will agree that once again, Kenny Hill has delivered a remarkable line of finely-crafted instruments; they look great, are a joy to play and sound terrific.

Players with shorter hands and/or fingers should seriously consider the 640mm or the 628mm or the 615mm scale.
My fitting sessions with numerous players over the years has proven that this slightly smaller scale is simply more comfortable for the majority of players, while sacrificing nothing in terms of tone and volume. The difference is the length of the neck, the width of the nut at 48-51mm and the proportional fretting of the instrument.
The 650mm is suitable for those players whose spread between thumb and pinky is 9″ or greater.
You can also measure your pinky tip to index finger tip spread comfortably. You should be at 6.5″-7″ on this measurement – you would adjust 1″ less for each scale length lower.
The 640mm is suitable for those players whose spread between thumb and pinky is 8″-9″
The 628mm is best for players with a span of 7″-8″
The 615mm scale length is best for players with a span of 7″ or less to about 6″
Of course, these are generalizations, but I do find that most players fit these standards.

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?). My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar. I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything. Thanks. Rich
Please NOTE that photos of all “production guitars” are stock photos, taken randomly for our numerous selection of guitars, whether they be from Kenny Hill – Esteve – Adalid or others. It is virtually impossible and arduous to photograph each of our available production guitars. I am, however, happy to take a few photos for you of any particular guitar with which your are interested.
Handcrafted instruments are photographed and listed individually, usually identified by a serial number, date and or some other combination.

OK, for a client, I did a direct A-B Comparison, same environment, same mic setup, same recording levels, same everything including music. The only difference is the first guitar is the Spruce 628 and then the Cedar 628, labeled below. The music is Valerie’s Air by RF Sayage (that’s me 🙂
June 16, 2014 – I then did another recent recording for another client, using the same piece, under the identical recording conditions, mic setups, recording levels, etc. Spruce first, Cedar second, I literally paused the recording, got up, got the Cedar version, and played the same piece. I trust this is as helpful as I can be in your decision making process.
