Kenny Hill Player 650mm 48mm Fingerstyle Cedar Pickup
Please note this listing is only for the Fingerstyle Cedar model in 650mm scale length with a 48mm nut width upgraded with a Barbera Soloist Saddle Pickup System.
This is a particularly special guitar in that it has the 48mm nut width with a bit smaller string spacing.
Kenny defines the “Fingerstyle” Model as a 48mm nut with a Cutaway.
The “Cutaway” Model is defined as a 52mm nut width, also with a Cutaway.
This guitar and any of the Cutaway or FingerStyle models have the Barbera Soloist Pickup System installed by Kenny in his Ben Lomond shop. An ultra high performance pickup where the replaced saddle is the whole system. It achieves zero loss with incredible clarity while maintaing the tonal characteristics of the guitar. It is superb, highly recommended and please note that I am not affiliated with Barbera in any way. They just work and that is all we want in our performing guitars.
The Kenny Hill Player Series classical guitars are new models that have been in development for some time. At a more accessible price, these guitar feature selected Indian Rosewood, Cedar, Spruce : all solid woods and high quality woods used for the Top and the Back/Sides, along with a thinly applied lacquer finish for excellent resonance and response.
The 650 “Fingerstyle” Model usually features a 48mm nut width -41mm at the 1st fret – 49mm at the 12th fret and 57mm string spacing at the saddle/bridge.
This particular guitar is smaller at the nut and at the various string spacings, feeling more steel string-like than classical yet the ease and sound of the nylon string guitar. Pretty cool, actually.
Please note that the scale length is 650mm with a radiused neck for ease of play and comfort.
These guitars are not ported, but can be ordered with one port if required. (What we have in stock is not ported).
The “Cutaway” model is also available which features a 52mm nut width (standard), just like the other other Player Series I have available.
The Player series classical guitar offers the player a wide variety of choices: each model is available with a spruce or cedar soundboard. Incredibly, the Spruce tops have silk rays or medullar rays throughout, highly prized and they really do sound terrific. The Cedar tops have beautiful straight grain, with a lush ruddy look to them, sounding warm and wet. The Indian Rosewood backs and sides are also superior. You might expect to see these types of woods selected for guitars well over $3000 or more in price.
Once you’ve tried these fingerstyle classical guitars, I am confident you will agree that once again, Kenny Hill has delivered a remarkable line of finely-crafted instruments; they look great, are a joy to play and sound terrific.
Players with shorter hands and/or fingers should seriously consider the 640mm or the 628mm scale.
My fitting sessions with numerous players over the years has proven that this slightly smaller scale is simply more comfortable for the majority of players, while sacrificing nothing in terms of tone and volume. The difference is the length of the neck, the width of the nut at 48-51mm and the proportional fretting of the instrument.
The 650mm is suitable for those players whose spread between thumb and pinky is 9″ or greater
The 640mm is suitable for those players whose spread between thumb and pinky is 8″-9″
The 628mm is suitable for those players whose spread between pinky and thumb is 7″-8″
The 615mm is suitable for those players whose spread between pinky and thumb is 6″-7″

Kenny Hill Player 650mm 48mm Fingerstyle Cedar Pickup
Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?). My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar. I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything. Thanks. Rich
Please NOTE that photos of all “production guitars” are stock photos, taken randomly for our numerous selection of guitars, whether they be from Kenny Hill – Esteve – Adalid or others. It is virtually impossible and arduous to photograph each of our available production guitars. I am, however, happy to take a few photos for you of any particular guitar with which your are interested.
Handcrafted instruments are photographed and listed individually, usually identified by a serial number, date and or some other combination.
Any photographs that state 52mm are incorrectly labeled
MP3 Audio – 191009-Kenny Hill Player 650mm 48mm Fingerstyle Cedar – fabulous guitar, easily played, does exactly what it is designed to do, have fun playing a great guitar. Radiused board helps with just about everything. Truss rod is a plus, excellent woods and construct make for a pleasurable experience. Perfecto! Recorded without the Barbera Soloist Pickup, which is fantastic by the way!
