Manuel Adalid Model 12 Cedar Granadillo Classical Guitar 650mm

Comments:

The Adalid Model 12, built by Esteve Guitarras, is a full bodied seriously robust Spanish Guitar, all solid wood with the result being a rounder, louder and richer tone with more projection, more so than even the Adalid 9C/B and the Adalid Model 11, both of which are excellent guitars.

Please note that this listing is for the 650mm version of the Model 12.  I do have Cedar 640mm versions as well, which is listed separately.

The Western Red Cedar is remarkably beautiful, while the Granadillo is equally so for the back and sides, all solid. The fingerboard is ebony.   The action is set up moderately low.

At a price tag of under $3000 everything included, this guitar is an incredible value.  It is difficult to find a true Spanish build, but of course Manuel Adalid can be considered the epitome of such luthiers, building for many of the other Spanish houses.  The name Adalid as well as Esteve, both owned by Manuel and his partners,  are considered among the penultimate Spanish name in classical and flamenco style guitars in the Valencia region of Spain.

This is a great guitar in every way.  See photos in the gallery.

The price includes a Black CrossRock HSC (this will be the case of choice) or something equivalent, along with our Accessory Package.  The price of the overall guitar has gone up significantly, including cost, shipping and Customs/Duty.  The guitar cannot be sold for less than offered, so please, do not ask.  Thank you kindly for your understanding.  Richard

Please note that Granadillo is harvested from Mexico, Central America all the way down to the Brazilian Amazon regions of South America.  It is called many names, including Macacauba, Amazon Rosewood, also known as Trebol, Nambar and Guayacan.  It is considered a rare wood.  Technically, it is not a Rosewood (Dalbergia), but from the genus, Platymiscium, where Manuel chooses the specific, Platymiscium yacatanum, which is very close in its chemical and physical properties to a rosewood. P. yucatanum: Granadillo that is indigenous to the Yucatan peninsula of southern Mexico, Belize and northern Guatemala and is known for more saturated color tones and frequent figuring in the logs. Found to be slightly denser than the other granadillo species (1).  It is a fairly dense wood, somewhat difficult to work with, as it can easily blunt many cutting tools.  Grain can turn out easily, but the wood finishes very nicely.  A very pretty wood (as you can see in my photographs), exotic, an excellent wood for instruments, it smells great too.  The wood is prized for its reddish coloring, featuring a variety of other coloration, while considered a premier choice for musical instruments.  It is also referenced as “La Madera Que Canta” or the Wood That Sings.  Quite appropriate as these are fabulously musical guitars.

Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?).  My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.  I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything.  Thanks. Rich

Please NOTE that photos of all “production guitars” are stock photos, taken randomly for our numerous selection of guitars, whether they be from Kenny Hill – Esteve – Adalid or others.  It is virtually impossible and arduous to photograph each of our available production guitars.  I am, however, happy to take a few photos for you of any particular guitar with which your are interested.

Handcrafted instruments are photographed and listed individually, usually identified by a serial number, date and or some other combination.

MP3 Audio – 201120-Manuel Adalid Model 12 Cedar Granadillo – a more updated recording (I could do better LOL) but it gives you a nice range on the guitar.  It is quite powerful (I had to lower the levels after the recording, they were popping red).  I should be surprised, but I’m not, this is a great guitar at the price point.
