Manuel Adalid Torres Classical Guitar #006 – Spruce – 650mm
Meeting Manuel Adalid was a special treat for me, knowing of his longstanding pedigree in the industry, as well as his work ethic. Playing some of his concert classical guitars was an equal pleasure. I decided then and there that I would have Manuel’s best work in my own gallery. From the Lacote to the Torres to the Hauser to his own Anniversario, I was so immensely taken with his guitar’s ability to voice the music authentically, with subtlety, and with grace.
The Torres Model Classical Guitar is truly gorgeous. This is the 650mm scale length Torres, thus you will not feel a difference in the size of the body as well as the scale length as compared to other classical guitars. It’s a “touch” smaller, but no more than a Hauser is smaller in the body. Notice the 10.5″ and 14″ width of the respective bouts and the string spacing. All with normal tolerances of a standard 650mm scale length classical guitar.
It is very comfortable, surprisingly so, at least for me. I must be getting older. I used to play 664 and 660 scale classical guitars. Now I’m finding that smaller scale (yes, 650mm is small to me) don’t bother me at all if they have decent space in the neck and strings. The measurements are above for your convenience, so that you can compare to a regular sized classical guitar.
What a gorgeous almost Romantic sound to her, given her bold Spanish character, all the while able to handle any of the repertoire you might wish to play. I was going to play some Aguado or Sor, but decided I liked the way she handled the highs and lyricism of my own music and some other pieces (mp3 below). Lots of voice in this baby and way powerful for a Torres build.
The build is superb, authentic, with the bindings and rosette you expect from a Torres model, light with excellent play, sound and projection. It is one of the reasons I wanted these guitars here by Manuel. I played one at the NAMM Show back in early 2013, wholly impressed by this guitar and all the others I laid hands on. I had to have them here, given the build and the price point of sub-$5K I have these specially built for me to exacting specifications by the shop luthiers overseen by Manuel. They must be perfect or they are not here.
The Spruce, a German or Rumanian Species was handled by Manuel in a very old manner, giving the guitar an aged look. Very appropriate for these historically based classical guitars. I’m going to love recording these guitars, especially the Torres and the Lacote models I received.
This guitar also comes with custom made Fustero Machines, built exclusively for Manuel and his select line of classical guitars.

MP3 Audio – 170729-adalid-torres-650-006 – what a sweet guitar. Poignant, brilliant and focused. I remark again how great a guitar it is for a most accessible price point.
